Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Dr. Reyhaneh Saeedi to one year and eight months of imprisonment, a five-year ban on leaving the country, and other supplementary punishments.

Reyhaneh Saeedi, a young doctor and social activist, was arrested by IRGC intelligence in Tehran on October 12, 2022. She posted a photo of her eating in a coffee shop with her husband without wearing the compulsory veil. Twelve men and one woman raided her home without prior notice, arresting her and confiscating all her electronic devices.

Dr. Reyhaneh Saeedi was detained in solitary confinement in Ward 2A in Evin Prison for 21 days and was temporarily released on November 2, 2022, after posting a bail of 1.5 billion tomans. Reyhaneh Saeedi’s trial was held on December 26, 2022, without giving her a chance to defend herself.

Social media users wrote of Dr. Reyhaneh Saeedi as a dedicated physician who went to Kermanshah and Sistan-and-Baluchistan, to help flood victims.

Dr. Reyhaneh Saeedi was sentenced to one year and eight months of imprisonment and five years of ban on leaving the country, five years of prohibition of activities in cyberspace and use of smartphones on the false charge of “assembly and collusion, encouraging corruption and prostitution, and propaganda against the state.” Her punishment also includes writing a 70-page thesis from several books by Morteza Motahhari, one of the regime’s backward mullahs and theoreticians.

Dr. Saeedi’s prison sentence has been suspended for five years, meaning that she could be imprisoned at any time for failing to observe the regime’s dictates.

Today, the world has no illusions about the nature of the mullahs’ regime in Iran. It is a regime that imprisons and tortures doctors, artists, students, intellectuals, charitable people, and freedom-loving individuals and kills and executes them. But thieves and murderers are in positions of power, continuing to massacre and plunder with impunity.

The world needs to make all its relations with the Iranian regime conditional on improving the human rights situation, ending the death penalty, and releasing all detained protesters and political prisoners. The international community must recognize the legitimate right of the Iranian people, women, and men, to self-defense and overthrow the mullahs’ tyrannical regime.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
