Sahar Bayat was killed on January 8, 2026, when she was targeted by the regime’s security forces in the Narmak neighborhood of Tehran while returning home with her husband.
After Sahar was struck in the head by a bullet, her husband carried her body on his shoulders on foot to Al-Ghadir Hospital in Tehran.
Her body was later transferred from Al-Ghadir Hospital to the Behesht-e Zahra morgue. After three days of persistent efforts, her family managed to retrieve her body.
The grieving family was denied permission to hold a funeral service in Tehran. They were forced to bury Sahar in her father’s birthplace, the village of Sutlaq in Tuyserkan. Prior to the burial, security authorities forced the Bayat family to sign a commitment guaranteeing that no slogans would be chanted during the ceremony.
Sahar Bayat was an artist who left behind numerous paintings. She was known for her warm personality, vitality, passion for travel, and love for sports such as mountaineering and skiing. Newly married, Sahar was 30 years old at the time of her martyrdom.
Sahar’s body, wrapped in a blanket, was among those abandoned behind Al-Ghadir Hospital in Tehran—a photo that remains one of the most shocking records of the atrocities committed by Khamenei’s regime forces during the January 2026 uprising.
