Detained protesters face unfair prison sentences in 5-min trials

January 10, 2023
in Women's News

The clerical regime’s Judiciary continues to issue unjust sentences to detained protesters arrested during the nationwide Iran uprising.

Two years for Mahtab Ansarian, Mahshid Zahedpasand, and Mina Afshari

Mahtab Ansarian, Mahshid Zahedpasand, and Mina Afshari are among the young women detained during the recent Iran uprising. Each of the three detained protesters was sentenced to two years in prison in a 5-minute trial that was held online.

Mahtab Ansarian, a 19-year-old student in the first semester of graphics at Tehran’s Soura University, and Mahshid Zahedpasand, 19, were arrested on November 15, 2022, in phase one of Andisheh, in Shahriar, a city in Tehran Province that is a hotbed of protests. The three young women are currently incarcerated in Qarchak prison.

Mina Afshari, 23, was also arrested on November 15, 2022, in Fardis of Karaj and taken to Qarchak Prison. The security services forced her family to remain silent and prevented the news of Mina Afshari’s arrest from being published in the media by promising to release their child.

Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Shahriar also sentenced Mahsa Farhadi, 21, to two years in prison. Mahsa Farhadi is from Sanandaj and lives in Tehran. She is accused of “assembly and collusion with the intention of disrupting national security.”

Mahsa Farhadi worked in a beauty service center in the Eram Complex in Shahrak Andisheh. On November 15, 2022, after leaving the workplace, she was beaten by security forces and taken to Qarchak prison. The family of this detained protester provided bail for her, but the judge presiding over the case refused to accept the bail.

The Court of Appeal of Tehran province sentenced Parisa Nik-khou to two years in prison. At the initial stage, the Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 5 years of imprisonment and two years of ban on leaving the country. Parisa Nik-khou was deprived of the right to have a lawyer of her own choice. The charges brought against her are “assembly and collusion to commit a crime against internal and external security,” and “disturbance of public peace and order.” The judge presiding over the case has set a bail of 600 million tomans for Ms. Nik-Khou’s conditional release. Parisa Nik-khou, 36, from Dehdasht, was arrested on September 24 in Tehran’s Keshavarz Blvd. She was first transferred to Niloufar Police Station, the notorious Vozara detention center, and Qarchak prison. Shilan Rashidzadeh, an accounting student, arrested

In addition to issuing unfair sentences for detained protesters, the clerical regime continues to arrest students, activists, and participants in the protests on a vast scale.

Shilan Rashidzadeh, a civil activist and accounting student of Payam Noor University of Saqqez, was arrested outside her home on January 3, 2023, by security officers without a court order. The next day, she was taken to a security detention center in Sanandaj for questioning. NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
