Amid the continued arbitrary arrests following the nationwide protests of January 2026, new reports indicate prison sentences, ongoing detentions, prolonged legal uncertainty, denial of medical care, and the enforcement of prison terms against a number of detained women.
Prison Sentences and Enforcement of Imprisonment
Zahra Jamali (Mahsa), who was arrested during the January 2026 nationwide protests and is currently held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, has been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to six months of imprisonment.
On January 9, 2026, she was transferred from Qarchak Prison to the women’s ward of Evin Prison.
Mahsa Nouri (Masoumeh), another detainee from the January 2026 nationwide protests, is serving a five-year prison sentence in Evin Prison. She was arrested on December 30, 2025, during nationwide protests.
Parastoo Jamalzai, another woman arrested during the January 2026 protests, was transferred to Arak Prison in late June this year to begin serving a one-year prison sentence.
Parnian Hashempour (Fatemeh), who was arrested in connection with the 2026 nationwide protests, is currently serving a two-year prison sentence in Evin Prison after her sentence was reduced on appeal. She was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison in January 2026.
Afsaneh Tavana is also serving a two-year prison sentence in Evin Prison. She was previously convicted of charges of propaganda activities in support of groups opposed to the state. The political prisoner was arrested by security forces in August last year.
Taktom Golmakani is serving a five-year prison sentence in the women’s ward of Evin Prison. Her arrest and conviction were linked to her activities on social media platform X. She was arrested in June 2026 and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
Ongoing Detention and Legal Uncertainty
Ashraf Mohammadi Najafabadi, an environmental activist, has been held without legal resolution in Dowlatabad Prison in Isfahan for nearly four months. She was arrested on February 19, 2026, by intelligence agents of the Revolutionary Guard Corps while returning from the memorial ceremony marking the fortieth day after the death of one of the victims killed during the January protests in Najafabad. She has been charged with propaganda against the state.
Samaneh Ebrahimi Navaei, a 46-year-old resident of Amol, was arrested by government forces on June 13, 2026, and transferred to a security detention facility in Sari. No information has been released regarding the reason for her arrest or the charges against her.
Sima Septo and Nahid Falahati, two Baha’i residents of Shiraz, were arrested by security forces at their homes on June 23 and transferred to an undisclosed location. No information has been released regarding their whereabouts or the charges against them.
Nirvana Torbati Nejad, a resident of Gorgan, was arrested at her home by the State Security forces on June 27, 2026, and transferred to the Intelligence Organization of the State Security Force. Her mobile phone and her mother’s mobile phone were confiscated during the arrest.
Saba Talebi, a 23-year-old blogger from Mashhad, has been held without legal resolution in Vakilabad Prison since May 26, 2026. She faces charges including insulting the Supreme Leader, insulting Islamic sanctities, and propaganda against the state.
Shahrzad Zamiri, an employee of the State Security Force who was arrested in connection with the January 2026 protests, remains in legal limbo at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. Since 22 May, she has been denied telephone contact and family visits.
Denial of Medical Care in Prison
Donya Hosseini, known by the alias Donya Azad, is serving her prison sentence in Evin Prison despite suffering from epilepsy. Although the Legal Medicine Organization determined that her continued imprisonment should be conditional upon access to an independent physician and specialized medication, these requirements have not been met in prison. Judicial authorities have also declined to issue a ruling declaring her medically unfit for imprisonment. She was transferred to Evin Prison on February 15 last year to begin serving her sentence.
Farideh Abdi Yazdi, a Baha’i resident of Shahin Shahr, has been held in Dowlatabad Prison in Isfahan since her arrest by intelligence agents of the Revolutionary Guard Corps on May 16, 2026. The status of her case remains unclear. She has also been denied access to specialized medical care despite suffering from diabetes, hypothyroidism, and other medical conditions.
