The Iranian judiciary has sentenced two women to a combined total of seven years in prison and 74 lashes following their involvement in the January 2026 Iran protests.
Maryam Deris and Fariba Hosseini, two residents of Kazerun and Shiraz, were sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz to prison and lashes.
According to the ruling, which was recently communicated to them, Maryam Deris was sentenced to one year in prison and 74 lashes on the charge of “disrupting public order.” In the same case, Fariba Hosseini was sentenced to five years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion,” and an additional one year for “propaganda against the state.”
Deris also faces a separate charge of “propaganda against the state,” although this aspect of her case has not yet been adjudicated in court.
Both women were arrested during Iran protests in January 2026. Maryam Deris was detained on February 13, 2026, in Kazerun, while Fariba Hosseini was arrested earlier, on January 4, 2026, in Shiraz by security forces. They were ultimately released on bail on March 9.
Both women have previously faced arrest and judicial rulings in connection with their activities.
