Mahmoud Golzari, former deputy of youths’ affairs says the number of divorces in northern Tehran is twice the number in southern parts of Iran’s capital.
Statistics show 1 in every 3 marriages in Tehran end in divorce. Tehran and the city of Karaj, just west of the capital, rank first in the country in the number of divorces.
Siyavash Shahrivar, director general of social and cultural affairs in Tehran’s governorate office had said in summer this year that from March to September 2014 the divorce rate in Tehran had increased 20% in comparison to the same period in the previous year. In the meantime, the number of marriages had decreased by 8% in this period. The number of divorces in Iran were more than 18 every hour, which has now increased to 19 cases an hour.
