Golrokh Iraee abruptly transferred out of Amol Prison to Evin

Golrokh Iraee abruptly transferred out of Amol Prison to Evin

Political prisoner Golrokh Iraee was abruptly transferred out of Amol Prison at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Arash Sadeghi, her husband, announced this on his Twitter account.

Arash Sadeghi wrote on Tuesday afternoon, “At 5:00 a.m. this morning, Ms. Golrokh Iraee was transferred from Amol Prison to the Moghaddas Prosecutor’s Office in Evin Prison. There is no information yet on the reasons for her transfer. Since three weeks ago, Ms. Iraee had refused to make phone calls and accept visits because of the prisoners’ deprivation of their minimal rights and the insult and beating of some female prisoners by Amol prison guards during a protest strike.”

No state media or judiciary has published the news of Golrokh Iraee’s abrupt transfer to Evin Prison.

Before this, in July 2021, Golrokh Iraee had texted a message from Amol Prison. She said she would refuse to make any telephone calls or accept visits in her attempt to end the cruel treatment of other female prisoners. “I will refuse to use the telephone or go for visitations, accompanied every time by the guards’ insults until the current miserable condition is ended.”

Ms. Iraee added in her message, “the detainees’ basic rights are offered to them as a privilege accompanied by insults and annoying tone used on them by prison guards.”

Golrokh Iraee’s banishment to Amol Prison

Political prisoner Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was banished to the Prison of Amol on January 24, 2021. On that day, she had just returned to Qarchak Prison after 43 days of interrogation at the IRGC Intelligence Ward 2A in Evin Prison. But she did not even find the opportunity to take her personal belongings and warm clothing with her.

Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court sentenced Ms. Iraee to 1-year imprisonment in April 2021. Her charge was “propaganda against the state,” which was handed to her by the authorities of Amol Prison.

Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was arrested by the Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Intelligence on September 6, 2014, and her husband and two other activists.

She served three weeks in the IRGC Intelligence Ward 2A in Evin. She was subsequently released on September 27, 2014, on an 80-million toman bail for her activities on Facebook. Then, she was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment on charges of “insulting the sanctities” and “propaganda against the state.”

On October 24, 2016, security forces stormed her residence, and she was taken to Evin Prison to serve her sentence. Her husband, Arash Sadeghi, went on hunger strike in protest, and after 72 days, Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was released on January 3, 2017.

On January 22, 2017, Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was arrested again as she headed to the hospital where her imprisoned husband was supposed to be examined.

On January 24, 2018, she and her cell-mate, political prisoner Atena Daemi, were battered and then exiled to the notorious Qarchak Prison in Varamin, violating the separation of the prisoners’ categories.

Ms. Iraee went on hunger strike on February 3, 2018. After 81 days on hunger strike, coupled with domestic and international support, the mullahs’ regime had to surrender to her demand and return her and Atena to Evin Prison on May 13, 2018.

After serving half of her sentence, political prisoner Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was finally released from Evin Prison on April 8, 2019.

Iran’s teachers and educators took to the streets in a nationwide protest on Thursday, April 21, 2022. The rally had been previously called for and coordinated. Women teachers played an active role in virtually all the gatherings. The Iranian teachers and educators held their protests in more than 50 cities and 24 provinces across the country, calling for the release of imprisoned teachers and an end to fabrication of cases against activist teachers. In this nationwide protest, Iranian teachers demanded the full implementation of the Civil Service Management Law. They said that after the implementation of this law and the implementation of a genuine ranking system and adjustment of the salaries, the salaries of every teacher, retiree and employee, especially newly hired teachers and informal teachers should be above the poverty line. They also called for payment of the end-of-service bonuses for the retirees of 2021 and the past-due payments of daily-wage teachers. The teachers also demanded the official and permanent employment of teachers working on temporary contracts. The right to free and quality education, especially in deprived areas, is another demand of Iranian educators and teachers. In addition to free education for all, teachers are calling for the abolition of ideological education in schools. According to the news published in the Telegram channel of the Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers’ Associations, which reports live on these protest rallies, plainclothes forces, guards, and police have cordoned off the entire route from Ferdowsi Square to the end of Qarni Street in Tehran. They did not allow the teachers to assemble and arrested several teachers, including women, in the very first minutes. In recent months, in step with the escalation of teachers and educators’ protests, security and judiciary forces have been dealing with activist teachers, namely summoning, arresting and detaining them. The Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Associations recently declared in a statement that the teachers' movement "will not be subdued by these rulings." The cities whose protest rallies have been reported so far are Tehran, Tabriz, Bukan, Isfahan, Shahreza, Ardabil, Karaj, Bushehr, Shahr-e Kord, Mashhad, Neyshabur, Ahvaz, Andimeshk, Zanjan, Shiraz, Qazvin, Qom, Sanandaj, Kamyaran, Saqqez, Zivieh, Dehgolan, Bijar, Marivan, Kermanshah, Islamabad-e Gharb, Yasuj, Dehdasht, Rasht, Khorramabad, Pol-e Dokhtar, Aligudarz, Kuhdasht, Delfan, Sari, Arak, Hamedan, Yazd, Mehriz, Harsin, Shushtar, Baghmalek, Sonqar, Baneh, Zarrin Dasht, Ilam, Sardasht, Abdanan, Mahshahr, Shush and Borujerd. Teachers also chanted, “Free the imprisoned teachers,” “Teachers, workers, unite,” “Government betrays, parliament supports,” “teachers are awake and they abhor discrimination,” “Raisi (the mullahs’ president), Qalibaf (the speaker of parliament) This is the last message, the teachers' movement is ready to rise.” In Arak, female teachers wrote on their placards: “Providing free education materials for every Iranian individual -Article 30 of the Constitution.” Female teachers in the city of Hamedan held a large placard that read, “This ridiculous ranking is for deception and humiliation of teachers.” Women also had a remarkable presence in the cities of Zivieh and Saqqez in Kurdistan province as well as in Karaj.
