Intelligence agents kidnapped a young poetess and threatened to cut her tongue if she continues to write poems. This news was published on January 18, 2021.
The young poetess, Taraneh Mohammadi, was taken out of the city of Baneh on January 11, 2021. She was insulted, humiliated and harassed. One of the intelligence agents who spoke Farsi told her that they would cut her tongue.
A source close to the Mohammadi family cited Taraneh Mohammadi as saying: “The intelligence forces were four men who were riding a while MVM with tinted windows. They stopped outside our door, violently put a sack over my head and without saying a word took me away. After travelling a considerable distance and going out of town, they insulted me and threatened me. After two hours, they put the sack over my head again and abandoned me in one of the neighborhoods near our house.”
Taraneh Mohammadi had been threatened on the phone by unidentified persons, the source said. She had also been summoned several times by the Department of Intelligence and the State Security Force of Baneh, previously.
Ms. Mohammadi was kidnapped because of her activities on the social media. Her posts and poems were mostly about human rights of the Kurds, women’s rights, children, and violence against women, including forced marriages.
Born in Baneh, Kurdistan Province, Taraneh Mohammad is 21, and studies social work in the University of Mahabad. She is fluent in Kurdish, Farsi, and English.
