At dawn on Monday, February 9, the death sentence of a female prisoner identified as Shahla Dowlatabadi was carried out in Kerman Prison, southern Iran.
Shahla Dowlatabadi had previously been sentenced to death by the judiciary of Iranian regime on charges of murder.
As of the time of this report, neither officials at Kerman Prison nor any official judicial authorities have publicly announced or confirmed the execution.
Meanwhile, recent reports indicate that the execution of another female prisoner, Shahnaz Javadi, had been carried out earlier, on October 12, 2025, in Na’in Prison. Javadi had been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses.
With the executions of Shahla Dowlatabadi, the number of women executed in the 2026 calendar year has risen to six.
Many of the women executed by the Iranian regime are themselves victims of domestic violence and discriminatory family laws. A significant number have acted in self-defense.
Iran, the world record holder in executing women
According to data recorded by the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, at least 334 women have been executed in Iran since 2007.
The recent reports bring the number of women executed in 2025 to 65.
Since Masoud Pezeshkian took office, the clerical regime has executed more than 3,400 prisoners, including 94 women.
In 2025 alone, more than 2,201 executions were recorded in Iran, more than double the number carried out in 2024 (1,006).
The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran calls on the United Nations and relevant agencies, the European Union and its member states, as well as all human rights defenders, to take immediate action to halt the rampant executions in Iran.
