Mandatory Hijab: PMOI Stands Against Imposing the Veil
On March 12, 1979, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) took a resolute stand on the issue of Hijab. Their statement left no room for ambiguity: “Any attempt to forcibly impose hijab on the women of our nation is both irrational and unacceptable… Our revolution inherently embodies freedom and liberation for all—regardless of gender, race, class, or creed… Thus, our revolution unequivocally upholds the complete legal, political, and social freedom of our women.”
Guided by this unwavering belief, female PMOI members—themselves Muslim and hijab-wearing—stood at the forefront of anti-mandatory hijab protests, amplifying their voices for freedom.
