Nayyereh Behnood, a political prisoner held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment by the Iranian judiciary.
According to the verdict issued by the Tehran Revolutionary Court, Behnood was convicted on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “collusion and assembly through membership in opposition groups” and sentenced to five years in prison.
Following the verdict, Ms. Behnood submitted a request for acquiescence to the ruling and is currently awaiting the court’s response.
During her detention, she was deprived of fundamental rights, including access to legal counsel, family visits, and phone calls.
She was arrested by security forces in Tehran in early October 2024.
Nayyereh Behnood was interrogated for approximately one month in the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility, Ward 209 of Evin Prison. On October 21, 2024, she was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin, where she continues to await her fate.
This sentence comes amid growing concerns regarding increasing pressure on political prisoners and the systematic violation of their fundamental rights in Iranian prisons.
