Raheleh Rahemipour, a 72-year-old civil rights activist, remains in critical health condition while being held in Evin Prison.
Suffering from multiple illnesses, including a brain tumor, heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, she has been denied proper medical treatment despite forensic doctors confirming her urgent need for specialized care outside the prison.
Raheleh Rahemipour’s health is so deteriorated that she frequently experiences extreme weakness and fatigue, causing serious concerns among her cellmates. However, judicial authorities have not only refused to grant her medical leave but have also denied her request for conditional release.
Forensic experts had previously ruled that Rahemipour was unfit to endure incarceration, warning that exposure to a stressful environment could further endanger her health. However, her participation in prison protests appears to have led to increased pressure against her.
The prosecutor’s office explicitly told her that due to her involvement in inmate protests, no action would be taken regarding her case or medical needs.
Raheleh Rahemipour was first arrested in November 2019 and was later released. In 2020, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to six years in prison.
In November 2023, after appearing at Evin’s prosecutor’s office, she was re-arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence.
Months after her re-arrest, this civil rights activist remains in a concerning condition, deprived of even her most basic right to medical treatment.

The political prisoner Raheleh Rahemipour is one of the families of the prisoners executed in the 1980s. Mrs. Rahemipour has been trying for years to clarify the truth about the disappearance of her brother and nephew who were imprisoned in the 1980s.
Her brother Hossein Rahemipour, a dentist, was arrested along with his pregnant wife in 1983. His daughter Golrou was born in Evin Prison.
When she was 15 days old, Golrou was separated from her mother for supposed medical care and was not returned to her. In April 1984, the authorities informed the Rahemipour family that Golrou had passed away, without showing them her death certificate or grave.
