January 2025 – Former political prisoner Arghavan Fallahi, released from Tehran’s Evin Prison in late 2023, has been arrested again. According to reports, the 22-year-old was detained on January 26, 2025, in Parand, a satellite city of Tehran, and transferred to an undisclosed location. No information is available regarding the reason for her arrest, her whereabouts, or her current condition.
Fallahi was arrested in November 2022 alongside her father, Nasrollah Fallahi, and her brother, Ardavan Fallahi. The family was detained while traveling from Isfahan to Shiraz to visit a family friend, Parvin Mirasan. They were held for over two months in Isfahan’s detention centers, where they were subjected to interrogation and torture.
The Fallahi family and Mirasan were later transferred to Evin Prison and tried on charges of “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK),” “assembly and collusion against national security,” and “propaganda against the regime.” The court sentenced Mirasan and Nasrollah Fallahi to four years in prison each, Arghavan Fallahi to two years, and Ardavan Fallahi to one year.
After enduring one year and four months in prison, Arghavan Fallahi was finally released on bail in March 2024. However, her father, Nasrollah Fallahi, remains incarcerated in Evin Prison, serving his sentence.
The renewed arrest of Arghavan Fallahi underscores the Iranian regime’s continued crackdown on political dissidents, with former prisoners frequently facing re-arrest despite their prior sentences and releases.
