An Innocent Victim of the Regime’s Brutality
Diana Mahmoudi was born in 2014 and lived in Piranshahr, a town in Iran’s West Azerbaijan province, with her sister Nadia and their parents.
On October 29, 2022, while walking home from school with her father, Diana was struck by a sniper’s bullet. Some reports indicate she was hit in the head, while others say that locals rushed her to the hospital, where surgeons attempted to save her. However, her small body could not withstand the injuries, and she passed away during surgery.
Following her death, the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) applied severe pressure on Diana’s family, insisting they attribute her death to a brain tumor or cancer that caused complications during surgery.
When the Mahmoudi family initially refused to comply, IRGC forces escalated their threats, even abducting Diana’s mother and withholding Diana’s body as leverage. The family eventually agreed to the official narrative under duress, securing her mother’s release. However, the authorities never returned Diana’s body; instead, they provided the family with an address and claimed she had been buried there.
Diana Mahmoudi’s story is a heartrending account of a young life taken too soon and the intimidation tactics the regime employs to silence grieving families. She was an innocent child, and her death underscores the relentless brutality of a regime willing to go to any length to suppress the truth.
