Somayeh Mehri, victim of an acid attack, died on April 14, 2015 in Tehran, after being hospitalized and enduring severe illnesses as a result of severe wounds in her lungs.
Somayeh and her three and a half year old daughter, had been attacked by Somayeh’s husband and the father of the innocent child in May 2011, where Somayeh was severely burnt and her lungs were damaged. Somayeh had stated, “When he realized that I was seeking a divorce he threatened to attack me with acid, and finally carried out his devious plan on my little girl, Rana and I when we were asleep.”
Rana, the young victim says, “If a dad splashes acid on us, we should splash acid on him, so he will burn and suffer the way we do.”
Rana’s older sister Nazanin, who witnessed the acid attack, is terrified of her father and his family’s name and is afraid of what they are capable of doing to them.
These crimes are the result of the misogynist policies imposed by the Iranian regime, where women are denied the right to a divorce and domestic violence is not considered a crime.
