International call for release of political prisoners and detainees, especially women
NCRI – September 6, 2010 – The Iranian regime arrested on Sunday the defense lawyer of a number of political prisoners, Mrs. Nasrin Sotoudeh, in Tehran. The agents of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security in an earlier incident on August 28 had gone to her workplace and residence and confiscated some files and her private properties.
The regime’s judiciary had accused her of “collaboration against the state security and propaganda against the establishment.”
Ms. Sarvnaz Chitsaz, Chair of the Women’s Committee of the Iranian Resistance, described the widespread arrest of women be it lawyers, journalists, human rights and social activists, students and others as a clear indication of the faltering regime’s fear of expanding trend of protests and public abhorrence against the regime in which women play leading role. She added: there is no doubt that arrest, torture, execution and stoning people to death are not going to stop Iranians, especially women, from fighting for establishment of freedom and popular rule in Iran.
Ms. Chitsaz calls on the UN Security Council, High Commissioner for Human Rights, special rapporteurs on arbitrary arrests and women, and all human rights and women’s rights organizations to condemn brutal violations of human rights in Iran and take immediate measures to get political prisoners, in particular women, released.
