The hunger strike of political prisoner Parisa Kamali Ardakani, currently held in Yazd Prison, has entered its eighth day, heightening concerns about her deteriorating health.
Parisa Kamali began her hunger strike on November 24 in protest against authorities’ refusal to consolidate her multiple prison sentences and has since been subjected to increased pressure and punitive measures.
Following the start of her protest, prison officials transferred her to solitary confinement and cut off all contact with her family. She remained in isolation until November 29, when she was returned to the general ward. Parisa Kamali is continuing her hunger strike despite suffering from toxic thyroid disease, a condition that places her at serious risk as her protest continues.
Multiple Security-Related Cases and Heavy Sentences
Parisa Kamali Ardakani was arrested on April 29, 2024, in Isfahan and initially taken to Dowlatabad Prison. She is facing three separate cases brought against her in Isfahan and Ardakan, all involving various security-related accusations:
- First Case (Ardakan): Accused of “destruction and arson,” resulting in a sentence of two years of exile to the city of Sarbaz.
- Second Case (Ardakan): Charged with “propaganda against the state” and “membership in opposition groups,” receiving four years in prison.
- Third Case (Isfahan): Similar charges to the second case, leading to a sentence of three years and nine months in prison.
Despite formally requesting the consolidation of these sentences, neither the judiciary nor prison authorities have taken any steps to review or act upon her application.
In 2025, Parisa Kamali Ardakani was transferred from Dowlatabad Prison in Isfahan to Yazd Prison.
After accepting the court’s ruling (“taslim be ra’y”), her combined sentence was reduced to three and a half years.
Parisa Kamali Ardakani was born in 1986 in Abadan, is married and a geography student.
