Women prisoners in Zahedan Prison join the 64th week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign, as families of political prisoners on death row stage a protest in front of Evin Prison.
In a growing wave of resistance against the death penalty in Iran, women prisoners in Zahedan Prison and detainees from the Azbarm facility in Lahijan have joined the nationwide “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign. Their participation brings the total number of prisons involved in the campaign to 40.
These prisoners have announced they will begin a hunger strike starting this Tuesday in protest against the alarming rise in executions across the country. The action is part of a broader movement of solidarity among incarcerated individuals opposing capital punishment in Iran.

Simultaneously, families of political prisoners sentenced to death gathered once again in front of Tehran’s Evin Prison to voice their outrage. The protesters, many of them elderly parents, held photos of nine political prisoners facing execution, chanting slogans such as “No to execution” and “No to unjust death sentences.”
The images displayed included those of Vahid Bani Amerian, Pouya Ghobadi, Mohammad Taghavi Sangedehi, Abolhassan Montazer, Babak Alipour, Akbar Daneshvarkar, Mehdi Hassani, Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo, and Mohammad Javad Vafaee Sani. Holding handwritten signs calling for the immediate abolition of death sentences, the families made a heartfelt appeal for justice and the protection of their loved ones’ lives.

In December 2024, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced six political prisoners—including Vahid Bani Amerian, Pouya Ghobadi, Shahrokh Daneshvarkar, Abolhassan Montazer, Babak Alipour, and Mohammad Taghavi—to execution, imprisonment, and exile.
The gatherings of families of political prisoners reflect widespread dissent against the harsh repression and heavy sentences imposed on political detainees in Iran.
The clerical regime employs unfair trials and instrumentalizes the death penalty as a tool to eliminate political opposition and instill fear in society.
Amnesty International, in its Annual Report 2024, announced that a whopping 64% of the executions worldwide had been carried out in Iran.
