Two political prisoners, Liyan Darvish, and Farzaneh Mohammadi Parsa, are facing severe hardships and violations of their basic rights in Evin Prison.
Liyan Darvish, a 40-year-old mother from Gilan Province, has been held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison since March 2024, serving a five-year sentence on charges including “assembly and collusion against national security,” “insulting Khamenei,” and “propaganda against the regime.” She is currently suffering from a severe kidney and bladder infection and is in urgent need of medical treatment. However, prison authorities have repeatedly denied her access to proper healthcare and transfer to a hospital.
In addition, despite her parole request being approved and the legal timeframe for its implementation having arrived, officials have refused to release Liyan Darvish. An initial promise of short-term medical leave has also failed to materialize, adding significant psychological strain to her already dire physical condition.
Meanwhile, Farzaneh Mohammadi Parsa, another political detainee, remains in limbo in the women’s ward of Evin Prison more than 90 days after her arrest.
Farzaneh Mohammadi Parsa, a dentist from Abadan, was detained on December 25, 2024, by security forces at her home in Tehran, where she was reportedly beaten during the arrest. After spending over 40 days in the notorious Ward 209—operated by the Ministry of Intelligence—she was transferred to the women’s ward on February 11. To date, neither her charges have been clarified nor has she been granted the option of release on bail.
The plight of these two women underscores growing concerns over human rights abuses, lack of medical care, and judicial uncertainty in Evin Prison.
