The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign marked its 59th consecutive week on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, with hunger strikes in 38 prisons across Iran. This campaign, launched in response to the alarming rise in executions, continues to draw attention to the plight of prisoners on death row and seeks global awareness and action against capital punishment in Iran.
Women Prisoners in Sepidar Prison Join the Campaign
Last week, coinciding with International Women’s Day, a group of women prisoners from Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz issued a statement announcing their solidarity with the campaign and demanding an end to executions in the country.
The campaign’s statement on its 59th week celebrates International Women’s Day, paying tribute to women worldwide, particularly the resilient and courageous women of Iran who have long endured systematic oppression. It also honors the memory of thousands of women who have lost their lives in the fight for freedom and justice.
Spiraling Wave of Executions in Iran
The statement highlights the relentless execution spree carried out by the Iranian regime, noting that nearly 100 people have been executed since February 19, including 28 individuals in a single day on March 1. Amid this alarming situation, the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign calls on all prisoners, political activists, human rights defenders, and civil society advocates to take a firm stand against capital punishment and amplify the voices of those on death row.
Expressing gratitude to all incarcerated individuals who have joined the movement thus far, the campaign urges all conscientious individuals to continue their fight for the abolition of executions and the protection of prisoners’ right to life.
The statement also warns that thousands of prisoners, including political and ideological detainees, remain at risk of execution. These prisoners live each day under the shadow of the gallows, facing imminent danger as the regime’s machinery of repression continues its assault on fundamental human rights. The campaign stresses the need for unwavering vigilance and international attention to halt these executions and prevent further injustices.
