A Bright, Hopeful Girl who Dreamed of Freedom
Sarina Saedi was born on October 11, 2007, in Sanandaj, a city in Iran’s western Kurdish region.
During the 2022 nationwide uprising in Iran, Sarina Saedi joined protests on October 26 in her hometown’s Naysar neighborhood. During the demonstrations, Iranian security forces struck her repeatedly on the head with batons, inflicting severe trauma that led to brain hemorrhaging. She was hospitalized immediately but tragically passed away the next day, October 27, 2022, in Sanandaj’s Towhid Hospital.
Sarina’s funeral was conducted under heavy security, with only a few family members permitted to attend.
Though doctors at the hospital had informed Sarina’s family that her injuries resulted from baton strikes, authorities forced her father to appear on state television that night, declaring her death a suicide. This coerced statement was the only condition under which her family was allowed to receive her body for burial.

Sarina Saedi was a bright, hopeful young girl who dreamed of a free and fair life, like many young Iranians who yearned for change.
