A Mother of Two, Shot on Her Balcony for Witnessing the Truth
Fereshteh Ahmadi, born on October 28, 1990, was from Mahabad in Iran’s northwestern Kurdish region. She left behind two young children, Bavan, aged six, and Miran, just three, when her life was abruptly ended during the protests in 2022.
On October 27, 2022, Fereshteh Ahmadi was standing on the balcony of her home when a bullet struck her heart, killing her instantly. Security forces, intent on stopping anyone from recording their violent suppression of the protests, indiscriminately fired at people in cars and even those standing near windows and balconies.
Fereshteh’s brother, Ebrahim Ahmadi, and her daughter Bavan, who stood by her mother’s side at the time, recounted the tragedy. Fereshteh had gone up to the balcony to hang her son Miran’s clothes to dry when she was struck down by the gunfire of regime security forces.
In a statement, Nasser Atabati, the head of the judiciary in Iran’s West Azerbaijan province, claimed that the fatal shot had come from within her own home. Her brother Ebrahim refuted this claim, asserting that the family harbors no grievance against others, as they are certain she was killed by the regime’s security forces.
Fereshteh’s untimely death has left a profound void, not only in her family but also in the hearts of many who continue to stand up against oppression. Fereshteh Ahmadi is remembered as a devoted mother whose life was cruelly cut short, simply for being a witness to the truth.
