A Compassionate Surgeon and Freedom Fighter
Parisa Bahmani, a distinguished and freedom-loving surgeon, was born on April 21, 1970, in Zanjan, a city in northwest Iran. A specialist in general surgery and oncology, she studied at the University of Lyon in France, and although she held residence permits for both Canada and France, she chose to remain in Iran, dedicated to serving her own people.
On October 26, 2022, during the 2022 nationwide uprising, Parisa joined a peaceful gathering of physicians outside the Tehran Medical Council building. However, dozens of motorcyclists and security forces attacked the doctors’ gathering and opened fire on the crowd. Dr. Parisa Bahmani was among those wounded who had been struck by a bullet. She succumbed to her injuries on October 28, 2022.
She is laid to rest in Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery, Tehran, in Section 7, Row 8, Grave 15.
In the days following her tragic death, Iranian officials offered conflicting accounts. The head of public relations for the Medical Council, under pressure from security authorities, claimed that Dr. Parisa Bahmani’s death was due to an accident involving a bus. Tehran’s prosecutor further alleged that her passing was unrelated to the protests outside the Medical Council building.
Parisa Bahmani’s life and work were dedicated to helping others. She sacrificed a comfortable life abroad, choosing instead to remain in Iran, where she contributed her expertise selflessly.
