News from the notorious Evin Prison indicates a renewed Coronavirus outbreak in the women’s ward. An increasing number of prisoners are contracting the virus, including Parastoo Moini and Fatemeh Mosanna, who have been infected.
Fourteen female political prisoners detained in Qarchak Prison were transferred to Evin Prison on July 20, 2022. Prison conditions in Evin are much worse than in Qarchak, and they face much harsher conditions.
Young political prisoner Parastoo Moini was among the women transferred to Evin Prison. She has now contracted the Coronavirus. No medical care against the Coronavirus is provided for the detainees in this ward. Therefore, Parastoo’s health and those of others are at risk.
Parastoo Moini, 21, is a student of computer sciences. Security forces arrested Parastoo Moini and her mother, Zahra Safaei, in Tehran on February 24, 2020. They also arrested Forough Taghipour and her mother, Nasim Jabbari. They were subsequently transferred to the Intelligence Ministry’s detention center (Ward 209 of Evin Prison). Parastoo Mo’ini and Forough Taghipour were transferred to Qarchak Prison in early March 2020.
Renewed Coronavirus outbreak – Fatemeh Mosanna
In addition to all the other illnesses Fatemeh Mosanna suffers, she is now infected with Coronavirus. She is in an inferior physical condition and suffers from viral gastroenteritis (stomach flu). By contracting the virus, her life is in great danger.
An informed source said that prison authorities do not treat Fatemeh Mosanna for the Coronavirus, and she is at risk of losing her life at any moment.
According to this source, “Before Fatemeh Mosanna contracted the virus, she was undergoing serum therapy to help her manage her medical and physical illnesses. She has internal bleeding and excretes blood. Now that she has been infected with Coronavirus, she may lose her life in prison.”
Fatemeh Mosanna is forced to remain in prison despite the doctors diagnosing her with GI disorders and stating that she cannot tolerate prison conditions. The regime’s Judiciary and Intelligence Ministry are preventing her release.
The 53-year-old political prisoner’s medical examiner had made it clear that Fatemeh Mosanna should not be in a state of stress and pressure. She was repeatedly transferred to the prison clinic due to severe pain, fainting, and other critical forms of illness.
Doctors have repeatedly raised her medication dose. They emphasized that treating her under prison conditions is of no use because she must be in a non-stress environment.
However, Fatemeh Mosanna was not allowed to continue her treatment outside of prison despite all her medical problems.
Fatemeh Mosanna was arrested for the first time with her mother in the 1980s when she was only 13 years old and had spent three years in prison. She remains detained under the worst prison conditions in Evin and Qarchak since 2015.
