The gathering of retired women teachers on August 22, 2017, was reflected in Iran’s state-run media.
The official IRNA news agency wrote a gathering by retirees was held to protest (the government’s) failure to implement the parliament’s bill on the normalization of salaries.
One of the protesters said, “The parliament has ratified a bill to balance retirement pensions with salaries of working employees but the bill has not been executed yet, and the pensions paid to the retirees are far less than the salary of working employees.” (The official IRNA news agency, August 22, 2017)
The state-run Tasnim news agency reported, “The number of retirees is 750,000 and the salaries of those who retired in the 1990s or 2000s are very different the salaries of those who have recently retired.”
Seyyedi, a retired teacher, said, “The law on management of state services was approved in 2007 but has not been implemented, yet. The main demand of retired teachers is implementation of this law.” (The state-run Tasnim news agency, August 23, 2017)
The Rokna state-run website also released a video clip on retired women’s protest rally and wrote, “A group of retirees gathered in front of the Parliament to protest against failure to balance their salaries and benefits with working employees.”
