The Iranian regime has no respect for human rights and international standards. Women are considered second-class citizens and female prisoners suffer even more.
The women’s ward in Sanandaj prison has more than 16 prisoners serving on various charges. They are deprived of recreational activities, including access to open air.
In this ward, similar to the notorious Gharchak Varamin Prison, the wards of political prisoners and prisoners serving for other crimes are not separated. The prisoners are detained in a very small space and a number of them have become sick as a result of lack of sunlight. Wearing chadors (long veil) is mandatory here despite the fact that this small ward is allocated only for women.
