PMOI Declares Readiness to Pay for Necessary Repairs in the Prison, Based on Figures Certified by Prisoners
Female prisoners in Karaj’s Fardis Prison are exposed to various infectious diseases due to extremely dire sanitary conditions caused by sewage overflowing in the recreation courtyard of Ward 1. In the summer heat, and amidst illnesses exacerbated by this lack of maintenance, the regime’s henchmen refuse to provide any medical treatment or care to the sick women.
The henchmen’s purpose in creating this disastrous and inhumane situation, along with the resulting illnesses, is to torture and exert double pressure to break the prisoners’ resistance. This is particularly true in Ward 1, where, in addition to ordinary prisoners, a number of political prisoners are held, including Masoumeh Senobari, Atefeh Hassani, and Fatemeh Nadi Dastgirdi, who are supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
Despite repeated collective protests by the prisoners, the warden and other repressive prison agents have not only failed to carry out the necessary repairs, but have also shamelessly claimed a budget deficit, conditioning any action on potential donations from benefactors. This deliberate inaction is part of the regime’s criminal policy to impose a gradual death on the prisoners. The PMOI has declared its readiness to pay for the cost of repairs based on the figures certified by the prisoners themselves.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, to take immediate action to address the dire conditions in Karaj’s Fardis Prison and to save the lives of all prisoners, including female political prisoners who are being held in these inhumane conditions.
