Hoda Mehreganfar, a political prisoner held in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, is facing a severe health crisis following the recurrence of an endometrioma cyst.
Despite clear medical warnings, she has been denied access to specialized healthcare services.
Before her arrest, Mehreganfar had undergone surgery related to this condition. However, with the resurgence of symptoms, she is now in urgent need of an ultrasound and examination by a gynecologist. The prison’s general practitioner, after examining her, warned of the risk of the cyst enlarging or rupturing and emphasized that continued treatment is contingent upon referral to a specialist.
Nevertheless, the supervising judge has rejected the request for her transfer to a specialized medical facility—putting her life at serious risk. Mehreganfar was supposed to receive regular medical follow-ups and checkups since April, but this fundamental right has also been denied.
Ongoing Legal Ambiguity and Psychological Pressure
In addition to being denied medical treatment, Hoda Mehreganfar remains completely in the dark about the status of her legal case. Her file has been stalled for months in Branch 1 of Shiraz Revolutionary Court, with no court date in sight. This prolonged legal uncertainty, combined with her deteriorating physical condition, is being used as a means of sustained psychological pressure against her.
Background on Hoda Mehreganfar
At around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, security agents stormed their home in Zarqan, and arrested Hoda Mehreganfar and her father without providing any warrant.
Following their arrest, they were transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.
A preliminary hearing for the father and daughter was held via video conference on March 30, 2025. They were accused of alleged connections with an opposition group during this session. Despite the extended detention period, they have not been granted release on bail.
