Hoda Mehreganfar, a 38-year-old electronics engineer and political prisoner, has been held in legal limbo for over eight months in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz without a court hearing.
Despite suffering from a serious abdominal condition, she has been systematically denied access to proper medical care and is facing escalating physical and psychological pressure.
Deliberate Medical Neglect
Hoda Mehreganfar has been diagnosed with an abdominal cyst and, according to physicians, requires immediate sonography and specialized medical evaluation outside the prison.
However, security officials and the supervising judge—acting under the influence of the Ministry of Intelligence—have repeatedly denied her transfer to medical facilities. Even access to the prison’s limited medical services has been heavily restricted.
Before her arrest, Hoda Mehreganfar had undergone surgery and was still in recovery. Her continued detention in the unsanitary conditions of Adelabad Prison has led to additional complications, including fungal and skin infections, severely worsening her overall health.
Ongoing Legal Ambiguity and Psychological Pressure
In addition to being denied medical treatment, Hoda Mehreganfar remains completely in the dark about the status of her legal case. Her file has been stalled for months in Branch 1 of Shiraz Revolutionary Court, with no court date in sight. This prolonged legal uncertainty, combined with her deteriorating physical condition, is being used as a means of sustained psychological pressure against her.
Background on Hoda Mehrganfar
At around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, security agents stormed their home in Zarqan, and arrested Hoda Mehreganfar and her father without providing any warrant.
Following their arrest, they were transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.
A preliminary hearing for the father and daughter was held via video conference on March 30, 2025. They were accused of alleged connections with an opposition group during this session. Despite the extended detention period, they have not been granted release on bail.
