A young woman, Roya Zakeri, was taken to an isolation room at the Razi Psychiatric Hospital by security forces on April 4, after chanting slogans against Khamenei, the regime’s Supreme Leader.
The report was posted on X by her lawyer Sina Yousefi. He wrote that Roya Zakeri was hospitalized in the Bu Ali ward of Razi Hospital in Tabriz, northwestern Iran, under the supervision of security agents and that her life was in danger.
After the morality police attacked Roya Zakeri on the street last October, she chanted, “down with Khamenei” and was arrested by security forces and taken to the Razi Psychiatric Hospital.
On October 21, she was transferred to the Tabriz Intelligence Department and after being interrogated by security agents, was returned to Razi Hospital. She was finally released on November 8, 2023.
After her release, in a video posted on social media, she stressed that she was physically and mentally healthy.
“I want to announce that I am in perfect physical and mental health, and I do not confirm the Islamic Republic’s claim in any way. Yes, I was admitted to Razi Hospital three times, but all three times it was compulsory and based on the letter of the judge.
“During last year’s protests, I held a piece of paper in front of Tabriz University, on which two slogans were written: ‘Down with the principle of Velayat al-Faqih (Supreme Leader)’ and ‘We want our rights.’ The police then attacked and arrested me, and after I was transferred to the police station, I went on a hunger strike. Then I was transferred from the police station to Tabriz Central Prison, and I was detained there for 16 days.”
Roya Zakeri is 31 years old from Marand and has a master’s degree in computer science.
