Rights activist Kajal Vatanpour summoned to serve jail time
Women and children’s rights activist Kajal Vatanpour, who had been arrested and sentenced to prison during the nationwide protests in Ilam, was summoned to the Department of Justice to serve her prison sentence.
Kajal Vatanpour is from Gilangharb, Kermanshah province. She holds a master’s degree in international law and is an activist for women’s and children’s rights. Plainclothes agents violently arrested Ms. Vatanpour during the nationwide protests at the Children’s Park library entrance in Ilam on September 22, 2022, when she was on her way home. She was taken to one of the detention centers of Ilam’s Intelligence Department.
Kajal Vatanpour was subjected to physical and mental torture by agents of IRGC Intelligence in Ilam to make forced confessions. She was subsequently transferred to the women’s ward of the Central Prison of Ilam.
The Criminal and Revolutionary Court of Ilam sentenced Kajal Vatanpour to a total of 2 years and six months in prison on charges of disturbing public order and peace, propaganda and activities against the state, assembly and collusion against internal and external security, and cooperation with enemy networks. In the court of appeals, she was sentenced to one-year imprisonment, six months of suspended imprisonment; two years ban on leaving the country, cancellation of her passport, and giving free legal advice for 1100 hours in one of the offices of Ilam province.
Kajal Vatanpour has been denied visitations with her family during her entire detention period. She was also deprived of having access to a lawyer.
Golaleh Moradi sentenced to four years
The Judiciary of the mullahs’ regime sentenced Golaleh Moradi, 48, to four years of imprisonment.
Golaleh Moradi is from Piranshahr. She was arrested by security forces two years ago.
This fall, Branch 3 of Criminal Court 1, located in Mahabad, sentenced Golaleh Moradi to 10 years and one day in prison on the charge of “assisting in the murder of Osman Haji Hosseini,” a member of the IRGC in Piranshahr.
With the consent of the victim’s parents and citing Article 37 Paragraph A and Article 38 Paragraph A of the Islamic Penal Code approved in 2013, the sentence has been reduced to 4 years imprisonment with two reductions, including time served.
During the year that Golaleh Moradi was detained in Urmia Central Prison, she was deprived of the right to a lawyer and temporary leave. She was tortured to make forced confessions.
On April 24, 2022, after one year and seven days of detention, she was temporarily released from Urmia Central Prison until the end of the proceedings after posting a bail of 400 million tomans.
Farnaz Nazeri sentenced to 10 years and banned from leaving the country
The Qaemshahr Revolutionary Court sentenced Farnaz Nazeri to 10 years of imprisonment and a 2-year ban on leaving the country.
Ms. Nazeri is a painter and sculptor and head of her household. She has two daughters (aged 14 and 20). During the nationwide uprising, she was arrested by security forces in Qaemshahr on November 6, 2022. She was temporarily released on January 12, 2023, after posting a bail of three billion tomans.
Farnaz Nazeri was transferred to the Intelligence Department during her first two weeks of detention. Her lawyer does not have access to her file.
