Thousands of Iranian students held protests in Tehran and 15 other cities against the Education Ministry’s decision to have students attend in person to take their tests during the pandemic. Girl students participated in many of these protests.
The student protesters demand that the examinations be held virtually.
The protests have been going on for two consecutive days on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 4 and 5, 2021.
The clerical regime sent threatening text messages to students and their parents to prevent the protests.
In addition to Tehran, Iranian students held protests outside the Department of Education in Yazd, Qazvin, Karaj, Shahr-e Kurd, Shiraz, Zanjan, Semnan, Isfahan, Khorramabad, Boroujerd, Ahvaz, Birjand, Tabriz, and Fouladshahr.
They chanted: “With Coronavirus, in-person exams not possible”; “don’t want in-person exams”; “don’t be afraid we are all together.”
In some cities, security forces used batons and pepper spray against the student protesters and confiscated their mobile phones. They arrested several students in the cities of Yazd and Shahr-e Kurd.
