357+ Medical Staff in Kermanshah and Isfahan Contract Covid-19

357+ Medical Staff in Kermanshah and Isfahan Contract Covid-19

In shocking confessions, two medical officials revealed that more than 357 medical staff in the provinces of Kermanshah and Isfahan have contracted the coronavirus.

“In the past two months, 250 medical staff in Isfahan province were infected with the coronavirus,” announced Arash Najimi, Spokesman for Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

He added, “Also in the past two months, 190 medical staff, including nurses, and 60 civilians from Isfahan’s health network (excluding the cities of Kashan, Aran, and Bidgol), have contracted the coronavirus.”

On the same day, Ebrahim Shakiba, a spokesman for the Corona Headquarters at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, announced that 107 doctors, nurses, and medical staff in the province had been infected with the virus. He added that 23 of the 107 are doctors; 40 are nurses; and 44 are health center employees and health headquarters staff.

Earlier, on Sunday, March 22, 2020, Mohammad Reza Zafar Ghandi, head of the Medical System Organization, was quoted by the state-run Hamshahri newspaper as saying: “Thus far, about 170 doctors and nurses in Qom have been infected with Covid-19, and 37 doctors and nurses have died.”

Mohammad Reza Qadir, the head of Qom University of Medical Sciences, said 130 nurses were also infected with the coronavirus (The state-run Asre-Iran website – March 23, 2020).

Abdul Reza Fazel, the head of Guilan University of Medical Sciences in Gorgan, said about 350 members of medical staff of Golestan province are suffering from respiratory disease, an indication of Covid-19 (The state-run Tasnim website – March 28, 2020).

On March 4, 2020, Jabbar Kouchakinejad, a member of the regime’s parliament from Rasht, said, “Many of our nurses and doctors have been infected and the number of staff has dropped dramatically. Treatment has become difficult.”

The Mullahs’ regime continues to cover up the actual number of coronavirus infections in Iran. Moreover, it has failed to divulge accurate numbers of medical personnel who have been infected with Covid-19.

Even before the coronavirus outbreak, Iran stood well below international standards, with a severe shortage of physicians, nurses, and medical staff. As the coronavirus outbreak turned into a crisis, Iran’s doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals have come under extraordinary pressure.

Despite current circumstances, the regime prefers to cover up the extent of the coronavirus crisis in Iran. It routinely uses tactics such as firing nurses and forcing the remaining ones to give up their protective clothing, thereby creating the appearance of normalcy. In fact, the regime’s actions only serve to further expose medical staff to the deadly coronavirus.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
