Pressures and restrictions of life under the mullahs’ rule, continues to take toll on women and girls, leading to fatal consequences.
On Friday night, July 5, 2019, Shiva Sha’abani, 16, hanged herself in a village near Oshnavieh, in West Azerbaijan Province. She reportedly committed suicide due to pressures and restrictions she faced in her family.
On Monday night, July 1, 2019, a 24-year-old woman in Aran and Bigdol, north of Isfahan Province, doused herself with gasoline and set fire to her body. The day before, she had called the emergency and threatened to take pills and kill herself. When transferred to hospital, she ran away. Those familiar with the case said the pressures and restrictions imposed on her in the family led her to end her own life.

Ronak Golabi, 46, from Piranshahr, who had earlier set herself ablaze, lost her life on Monday, June 17, 2019.
Ropak Heidari, from a village in Kamyaran, hanged herself a week before her marriage after getting battered by her father and brother.
Delina Taheri, 13 from Saqqez, ended her life when she hanged herself on June 12, 2019.
In Mashhad, another 13-year-old girl, Farideh, committed suicide after delivering her baby. Her mother said they were very poor and made their daughter marry a wealthy man.
Compulsory marriage is among the pressures and restrictions which coupled with lack of legal protection for women, leads them to suicide.
A social pathologist announced that the number of girls and women in Iran who commit suicide has increased 66% in five years. (The state-run Khabar Online website- November 3, 2017)
The Iranian Coroner’s Office has also announced that more than the number of youths and juveniles who commit suicide increases by more than 7% every year.
