Participation in Iran’s economy for women between ages of 15 and 24 is in single digits in 22 provinces across the country,
according to the country’s Census Center.
The results of statistics on the working force published by the Census Center shows the lowest rate of young Iranian women’s participation in the country’s economy is in Kerman Province (4%) and the highest is in East Azerbaijan Province (13.9%). One of the characteristics of Iran’s job market is the fact that it is inadequate for women, and as a result women’s unemployment rates are twice that of men.
Economic participation of men is five times that of women, for the period of March 2014 to March 2015 (65.2% for men and only 12% for women). Men in the age group of 15 to 24 years have 40.3% economic participation, while women in this age group have only an 8.3% participation.
Unemployment among women reached above 40% last year. The labor work statistics results show that the provinces of Kohgilouyeh & Boyer Ahmad with 67%; Chahar Mahal & Bakhtiyari with 61.6%; and Lorestan with 60.8% have the highest women’s unemployment rates.
