Iran: 10-fold increase in number of women suffering from AIDS

In a medical gathering in the Northern Province of Guilan, on the World AIDS Day, it was revealed that the age of contracting AIDS has dropped to 16 and that the number of women suffering from this disease is greater than men.

Hossein Esmailpoor, governor of Some’esara said: AIDS had 33 per cent increase over the past ten years in Iran with the age of contracting it dropping to 16.

He added: Unfortunately, the number of women contracting AIDS has increased ten folds over the past decade.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
