One of the Iranian state-run news agencies, Mehr, published a report this morning on the UN Women’s workshop preceding the Global Leaders’ Meeting on gender equality, in which it expressed grave concern regarding the challenges the Iranian regime would be facing in this meeting and its demands from all member states.
The Mehr news agency wrote, “In circumstances where all things are prepared for active participation and engagement in women’s area on the international level, what are the plans of the Islamic Republic of Iran for maximum attendance and participation? What are the plans and measures of the women’s directorate going to be regarding the realization of the goal of ‘presenting a model’ and ‘international streaming’ on the international level, to which the directorate’s report on its two-year conduct referred?”
Referring to the fact that gender equality and support for women’s rights are the most important issues set by the UN Women which will overshadow all other issues, Mehrkhaneh added, “What will be the government’s approach in some controversial instances and issues like reproductive health and rights, women’s wage-less jobs (housewives), etc.?”
“There is also the very important issue of underlining the need to reform the laws that guarantee gender inequality. Of course, in light of some differences in men’s and women’s rights and duties, Islamic countries need to have careful planning and deliberations,” Mehr warned.
