The 142nd week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, as per every week, with a hunger strike by political prisoners across 66 prisons throughout Iran. This week, the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Association and Assembly, Ms. Gina Romero, announced that she is taking part in the campaign’s hunger strike.
In its statement, the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign declared that the support of Ms. Gina Romero, the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, brings great encouragement to prisoners standing up for human dignity under the threat of execution.
Ms. Gina Romero’s joining of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign was welcomed by dozens of political figures and human rights activists from various countries around the world.
Former Italian MPs, Ms. Elisabetta Zamparutti, the treasurer of Hands off Cain, Ms. Rita Bernardini, President of Hands off Cain, and Sergio D’Alia, Secretary General of this non-governmental organization, also joined the UN Special Rapporteur and the prisoners in Iran by going on hunger strike.
Among them, Lord David Alton and Mr. Jim Shannon, members of the UK House of Lords and House of Commons, along with Ms. Dorien Rookmaker, Mr. Struan Stevenson, and Mr. Paulo Casaca, former Members of the European Parliament, voiced support for the Special Rapporteur’s action, adding to the global dimension of support for the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign. Ms. Elisabetta Zamparutti, former member of the Italian Parliament, also joined her by going on hunger strike.
Recalling October 10, the World Day Against the Death Penalty, the statement of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign noted:
“From October 2025 to October 2026, at least 2,230 people were executed in Iran, including 54 women, 47 political prisoners, and 4 children. These figures represent lost lives, grieving families, and a society that faces the terror of death and repression every day.
We, the members of the ‘No to Executions Tuesdays’ campaign, who for 142 consecutive weeks have cried out that no human being should fall victim to the gallows, call on all awakening human consciences, international bodies, and human rights defenders to go beyond verbal condemnations and act to establish practical, urgent mechanisms to halt executions in Iran. Do not leave the people of Iran alone in these dark days of repression.”
On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during Week 142, prisoners in 66 prisons are on hunger strike in the hope of a free Iran, clear of torture and execution.
A significant portion of the members of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign are female political prisoners serving their sentences in women’s wards in Evin Prison, Qarchak Prison in Varamin, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, Zahedan Prison, Yazd Prison, Lakan Prison in Rasht, and Bandar Abbas Prison.
