NCRI Women’s Committee calls for protests against splashing of acid on Iranian women and girls

Rise in protest against the anti-human crimes of the clerical regime and the splashing of acid on women and support the zealous Iranian women, especially the victims of this tragedy

Ms. Sarvnaz Chitsaz, Chair of the NCRI Women’s Committee, expressed strong abhorrence for the tragic crime of splashing acid on the faces of women and girls in different cities.

She described the courageous demonstrations by the people and youth in Esfahan and Tehran as a clear indication of the popular wrath and hatred for the misogynic regime of mullahs and the popular desire of Iranian people to overthrow this regime. She called on all women throughout Iran to rise in protest against this anti-human crime and to actively participate in the protest demonstrations planned for October 25 and to support the valiant women of Iran, in particular the victims of this ominous crime.

She stated: “During its 35 years of miserable rule, the clerical regime has not spared any abjection toward the noble Iranian women. And the new and unprecedented brutality of the mullahs’ regime in splashing acid on young women’s faces shows its inability to withstand the growing women’s movement in Iran.”

Ms. Chitsaz added: “The regime leaders imagine in vain that these brutalities can save their faltering regime from its inevitable collapse. The brave Iranian women, who have 1000 heroines in Ashraf as a model of perseverance in front of them, never bow to the fundamentalist rulers of Iran who are the ‘Godfathers of ISIS’.” She called on all human rights and women’s rights organizations to condemn this barbarism and adopt immediate measures to help the oppressed women of Iran.

On the evening of Wednesday, October 22, agents of the regime’s suppressive forces, fearing the boiling anger of thousands of brave people of Isfahan who were protesting in front of the mullahs’ Judiciary in Nikbakht Street, attacked the gathering and arrested over 50 youths and transferred them to an unknown location. In Tehran too, a number of human rights and women’s rights activists protested in front of the regime’s parliament (Majlis). The demonstrators in these protests chanted slogans, including:

“Death to the Iranian ISIS”, “Worse than ISIS, are you splashing acid on us?”, “Death to acid attackers”, “Veiling cannot be forced”, “With hijab, without hijab, we don’t want acid attacks”, “Woman’s right to security? Acid attack; cruelty”, “Misogynic laws should be abolished.”

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
