in Women's News

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, preschool teachers in Tehran staged a protest in front of the office of Mohammad Reza Hajibabaei, deputy speaker of the clerical regime’s parliament.

Women, who made up the majority of the protesters, led the rally with slogans such as: “Employment is our absolute right” and “A teacher may die but will not accept humiliation.”

The preschool teachers demanded the immediate dispatch of the bylaw for changing their employment status.

Teachers’ Protest in Shirvan, North Khorasan Province

On Monday, August 11, 2025, a group of teachers in Shirvan, North Khorasan Province of Iran gathered in front of the governor’s office to protest repeated and unplanned power outages.

They declared that the frequent blackouts not only disrupted education and daily life but also caused significant financial and psychological damage to residents.

Shirvan is one of the oldest centers of culture, civilization, and history in North Khorasan Province.

Protests Against Widespread and Unplanned Power Outages

Following extensive and unplanned blackouts, on August 10, 2025, angry residents of several cities — including Babolsar, Golestan, Salehieh, and Talesh in Gilan Province — took to the streets.

In Babolsar, in Northern Mazandaran province, alone, the electricity was cut five times in 24 hours, one lasting as long as seven hours.

In Golestan and Salehieh, in Tehran Province, power outages lasted for 15 consecutive hours from the morning of August 10.

Women played a prominent role in all these demonstrations, chanting: “Water and electricity are our absolute right.”

On the same day, a number of social security retirees in Ahvaz, Kermanshah, Rasht, and Tehran also protested, demanding action on their grievances, including pension equalization and removing the Social Security Organization from the government’s monopoly. Women played an active role in these retirees’ protests as well.

Protest, Resist, and Rise Up!

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, saluted the outraged people on X and addressed the protesting women and youth, saying: “Executions and massacres, corruption and discrimination, crushing poverty, runaway inflation, water and power shortages, and the destruction of the environment — these are the grim realities of life under the mullahs’ regime, which has devastated both our land and our people.

There’s only one answer: protest, resist, rise up!”

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
