The State-run Javan Daily protested to female soloists singing in ceremonies of the month of Moharam and wrote: ‘Ashura operas’ with the performance of female soloists in the Vahdat Hall is a sample of the weakness of the artistic Ashura uprising performance
that are being held these days with the support of the government.
The ‘Ashura opera’ was performed by the Tehran Symphonic Orchestra with a female soloist. From the Sharia Law point of view this issue has flaws and its performance in the month of Moharam, when religious sentiments reach their peak brings about this question that don’t the managers of the ‘Ashura opera’ have the slightest knowledge about religious decrees regarding solo performances of women?
Not a long time has passed since the uproar over the guidance minister’s remarks about female soloists that the Ashura opera goes on stage and a female soloist performs in it. It is as if the guidance minister forgot that he was forced to say before a crowd of reporters that “solo performances are banned”!
Currently, the solo performance of a woman in a ceremony that is related to Ashura uprising has created a paradox that the art department has had an undeniable role in. (State-run Javan Daily – October 19, 2015)
