In its 143rd week, the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign once again voiced its opposition to the issuance and implementation of death sentences and the deprivation of the right to life, as prisoners in 66 prisons across Iran launched a hunger strike.
Earlier, the Mothers of Reconciliation of Kurdistan announced their support for and participation in the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign through a published statement. While opposing the issuance and implementation of the inhumane death penalty in the prisons of the clerical regime, the Mothers of Reconciliation of Kurdistan also called for support for political prisoners and for clarification regarding the fate of those subjected to enforced disappearance.
In part of their statement, these mothers wrote: “As mothers who know the pain of loss, grief, and waiting, we believe that the right to life, freedom, and human dignity is an undeniable right, and no mother should have to live in fear of her child’s execution.”
In its statement, the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign also referred to international support for the campaign. The statement noted: “Since the beginning of Mehr, the authoritarian regime ruling Iran has executed at least 72 people, and many prisoners, particularly those arrested during the January 2026 uprising, remain at risk of being sentenced to death and executed.”
Mr. Leopoldo Maldonado, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, also joined the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign this week in protest against executions in Iran.
Amnesty International Warns About Executions in Iran
The growing support for this campaign and opposition to the death penalty demonstrate that the outcry against this inhumane punishment is becoming louder by the day, and that solidarity with prisoners facing execution has evolved into an international movement.
In this context, Amnesty International issued separate warnings calling for the immediate halt of executions in Iran.
The organization stated that 20 protesters from the January 2026 uprising are at imminent risk of execution and that at least 34 individuals have already been executed.
Amnesty International also warned about the risk of the execution of Fatemeh Aini, a 31-year-old prisoner held in Lakan Prison in Rasht. On October 19, 2026, Fatemeh Aini was transferred to solitary confinement for the implementation of her death sentence.
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, marking the 143rd week of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign, prisoners in 66 prisons went on a hunger strike. A significant number of the campaign’s participants are female political prisoners, women who have joined this nationwide protest in the hope of a free Iran, free from torture and executions.
These prisoners are serving their sentences in the women’s wards of Evin Prison, Qarchak Prison of Varamin, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, Zahedan Prison, Yazd Prison, Lakan Prison in Rasht, and Bandar Abbas Prison.
