On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, on the 67th week of the nationwide campaign “No to Executions Tuesdays,” families of political prisoners sentenced to death, along with protesting youth in several Iranian cities, once again raised their voices in defiance of the regime’s use of capital punishment as a tool of repression.
In Tehran, the families of political prisoners gathered once again in front of Evin Prison, holding up photos of their loved ones and placards with slogans such as “No to Execution” and “Immediate Reversal of Death Sentences.”
The families held up the images of prisoners, including Vahid Bani-Amerian, Pouya Ghobadi, Mohammad Taghavi Sangdehi, Abolhassan Montazer, Babak Alipour, Akbar Daneshvarkar, Mehdi Hassani, Behrouz Ehsani Eslamlou, Mohammad-Javad Vafaee Sani, and Manouchehr Fallah.
Protesters warned that issuing and carrying out death sentences violate fundamental human rights and inflict profound psychological trauma on families.
Five of these prisoners – Bani-Amerian, Alipour, Ghobadi, Daneshvarkar, and Taghavi – are on the verge of being transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison. Furthermore, recent restrictions on their phone calls and banking access have heightened families’ concerns.
The protests extended beyond Tehran. In cities such as Rasht, Tabriz, Isfahan, and Semnan, young demonstrators also took to the streets with placards supporting the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign and demanding the immediate annulment of death sentences.
In Rasht, protesters held up images of Mohammad-Javad Vafaee Sani, Manouchehr Fallah, Sharifeh Mohammadi, and detainees from the so-called “Ekbatan case,” calling for an end to executions.
In Isfahan, youths demonstrated in the streets, holding signs demanding the cancellation of capital sentences.
In Semnan, similar actions took place with protesters chanting, “No to Execution, No to Repression.”
In Tabriz, young activists joined the nationwide campaign, echoing the growing demand across the country for an end to executions.
