Reports indicate that political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared has been denied in-person visits with her family and children since her transfer to Qarchak Prison and continues to be held in solitary confinement.
Officials at Qarchak Prison in Varamin refuse to grant Akbari Monfared permission for in-person meetings with her family, despite repeated requests.
Hossein Taj, the lawyer representing Maryam Akbari Monfared, stated, “My client, after completing her 15-year prison sentence without a single day of furlough, was transferred from exile in the Prison of Semnan to Qarchak Prison to serve an additional two-year sentence. Since her transfer, her family has not been allowed any in-person visitation.”
He added, “Although her husband obtained a court order from the prosecutor’s office permitting visitation, prison officials claim that an inquiry to the Civil Registry failed to verify their marital status. As a result, they denied the request for an in-person meeting. However, her two daughters have been granted booth visits.”
According to the regulations of the Iranian Prisons Organization, general booth visits are allowed weekly, and in-person or private meetings can be granted under certain conditions. Customarily, prisoners are granted in-person visits once a month, yet this policy has not been applied to Maryam Akbari Monfared at Qarchak Women’s Prison. The clerical regime is using these excuses to abuse this resilient political prisoner and put further pressure on her.

Maryam Akbari Monfared completed her 15-year prison term on October 11, 2021, after being exiled to Semnan Prison without receiving any furlough. However, due to a new case fabricated against her, she was transferred to Qarchak Prison on October 23, 2024, to serve an additional two-year sentence.
In late June 2024, Maryam Akbari Monfared faced another legal case to confiscate her and her family’s assets. According to Shargh news agency, the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order Headquarters filed a complaint seeking the seizure of her property.
