Nurses continued their protests on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in different Iranian cities, underscoring the escalating economic and social discontent among healthcare professionals in Iran.
The protests which resumed on Saturday, November 2, reflect the deepening frustration with the government’s failure to address the nurses’ longstanding demands.
In Yazd, central Iran, nurses persisted in their protests for better wages and working conditions at multiple hospitals, including Sadoughi, Rahnamoun, and Afshar hospitals.
The strike has severely impacted hospital operations, with reports indicating that only emergency procedures are being carried out and routine patient care has been disrupted.
The nurses voiced their frustration with slogans such as “Enough with empty promises; our tables are empty” and “Where did our pay go? Into whose pockets?”
In Shiraz, capital of Fars province in southern Iran, nurses and medical staff at the Medical Sciences University of Shiraz held a protest, highlighting poor pay and untenable working conditions.
Nurses working at Qaem Hospital of Assadabad in Hamedan, western Iran, also staged a protest gathering on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
On the same day, a group nurses and healthcare workers gathered in front of the Jondishapur Medical Sciences University in Ahvaz, captial of the oil-rich Khuzestan Province in southwestern Iran. Their gathering was dealt with violently by security forces.
Nurses also staged protests in Zanjan and Bushehr on Tuesday, November 5.
Iranian nurses and medical staff have also issued a statement calling for nationwide protests and strikes on Thursday, November 7.
