Intelligence agents arrested Mahsa Basir Tavana at 8 a.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
The Intelligence Department of Rasht, the capital of Gilan Province, had summoned her by phone.
Mahsa Basir Tavana, the mother of two, was immediately transferred to the detention center of the Intelligence Department. No information has been available on her or the reason for her arrest since this morning.
Mahsa Basir Tavana comes from Fouman. She is the sister of Mehran Basir Tavana, 29, who was shot and killed by security forces during Iran protests in Some’e Sara last year on November 16, 2022.
This is the second time Mahsa Basir Tavana has been arrested. The first time was in Fouman on August 17, 2023, when she was accompanying her sick mother in a hospital. She was released after some time on bail.
The clerical regime has been systematically arresting relatives of protesters slain during last year’s uprising before the anniversary of their demise to prevent families from holding memorial ceremonies for them.
