One week has passed since a devastating flood inflicted significant damage on Garmi County and the villages of Bileh Savar in Ardabil province. However, relief efforts in this area are still not being carried out.
According to the Ardabil Provincial Governorate, the drinking water supply has been cut off in Garmi County and 15 of its villages due to the floods. Farmers and villagers have suffered the most, with their agricultural lands and orchards being destroyed. Many of their livestock, including sheep, have perished. Additionally, residential homes in various areas of Garmi County have also been damaged.
Many flood victims in Garmi County villages have been abandoned without access to water, food, and necessities. While the people need assistance, the government has provided no help.
The flood caused severe damage to the Baluch people in Murtan
On June 5, 2023, following heavy rainfall and floods in the border region of Murtan, dozens of Baluch compatriots from the districts of Rask and its upstream areas were severely affected. Most of the affected individuals are women and children.
Furthermore, the situation of the residents of the flood-hit village of Yailagh Maschidli Kandi indicates that no assistance has been provided to these areas so far. The area’s inhabitants are still struggling with water scarcity and the problems arising from the destruction of their homes.
As a result of heavy rainfall and the flooding of the Nahang River at the zero point of the Pirkor border region, which is a part of Rask County, dozens of fuel tankers have been trapped in the flood. It is reported that many vehicles are stuck in the middle of the river and have overturned, causing significant financial losses to the fuel tanker drivers.
The negligence of officials and the lack of job opportunities in Sistan and Baluchestan have forced fuel smuggling to become the only source of meager income and livelihood for Buloch citizens.
