Ladan Molla Saeedi, the 4th Iranian woman executed in May

The authorities of the notorious Qarchak Prison hanged Ladan Molla Saeedi in the early hours of Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Ladan Molla Saeedi had been transferred to solitary confinement the night before to be prepared for the execution.

Ladan Molla Saeedi was convicted of deliberate murder. She was also moved to solitary confinement last month to prepare for execution. However, she was returned to the women’s general ward after receiving a two-week respite from the victim’s parents.

On May 23, 2022, an unidentified woman was hanged in the Prison of Amol.

With the execution of Ladan Mollah Saeedi, the clerical regime’s Judiciary has carried out the death penalties for four women in May alone. These executions took place in Qarchak Prison in Varamin, Amol Prison, Adelabad Prison of Shiraz, and the Central Prison of Zahedan.

The number of women executed in Iran since September 2013 has now reached 135. Iran holds the world’s record in the execution of women. The NCRI Women’s Committee had earlier announced that the mullahs’ regime executed 18 women in Iran in 2021.

Most women convicted of deliberate murder and sentenced to death in Iran are victims of domestic violence. The lack of social or government support for them and Iranian women’s deprivation of the right to divorce lead to such regrettable outcomes.

Iran carried out more than half of the world’s executions in 2021

A new Amnesty International report dated May 24, 2022, noted the Iranian regime’s shocking record in carrying out death penalties.

AI said Iran executed at least 314 people (up from at least 246 in 2020), their highest number of executions since 2017, reversing year-on-year declines since then.

According to the new Amnesty International report, 14 women were among those executed in Iran in 2021.

According to documents obtained from within the mullahs’ regime, the Iranian Resistance declared that 183 women in the regime’s prisons were on death row or sentenced to Qisas (death by retribution).

Death by retribution is carried out on persons convicted of murder, regardless of their motives.

According to the statistics registered by the office of the Prisons Organization, 5,197 people are on death row or sentenced to Qisas (retribution in kind). Of these, 1,366 are sentenced to death, including 39 women. Another 3,831 prisoners, including 144 women, have a sentence of Qisas or retribution in kind.

The documents also list the names of 51 persons, including 23 women, sentenced to death by stoning.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
