In a nationwide protest, retired teachers and educators held protests in at least 20 cities across Iran on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
The retirees held protests in Tehran, Qazvin, Shiraz, Shahrekord, Zanjan, Qorveh, Lordegan, Hamedan, Qom, Mazandaran, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Rasht, Lahijan, Bandar Abbas, Ahvaz, Ilam, Sanandaj, Ardabil, etc.
The retired teachers and educators in Tehran gathered outside the mullahs’ parliament. They called for attention to their living conditions and urged the regime’s officials to expedite the adoption of the bill to make adjustments to their pensions permanent.

Women widely and actively participated in the protests of retired teachers and educators. Addressing the regime’s MPs and parliamentary speaker, one retired woman told the gathering outside the regime’s parliament in Tehran, “The time has come to destroy you.”
The protesting retirees chanted: “We heard too many hollow promises but seen no justice,” “Retirees rise to eliminate discrimination,” “high prices and inflation are calamities for the people,” “Free the imprisoned teachers!”
The retirees had also held protests in some cities including Ahvaz on December 26, 2021.
Most retirement funds are bankrupt
Mohsen Zangeneh, a member of the regime’s parliament, acknowledged that the retirement funds are bankrupt. “Most retirement funds in the country are bankrupt. The new year’s budget is supposed to allocate 200 trillion Tomans to these funds to pay the salaries of the retirees.” (The state-run Tejaratnews.com – December 23, 2021)
