The Department of Intelligence of Ahvaz has prevented political prisoners Nejat Anvar Hamidi Karoun, 62, from going on medical leave despite her dire physical condition.
Political prisoner Nejat Anvar Hamidi Karoun suffers from thyroid malfunction, hypertension, high blood lipids, eye problems and is at risk of losing her eyesight. But the Department of Intelligence of Ahvaz opposes and prevents her from going on medical leave.
Last week, a Judiciary delegation visited the Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz. One of the officials told this political prisoner that because of her charges, the Department of Intelligence does not agree with her medical leave.
Nejat Anvar Hamidi Karoun was infected with the Coronavirus in April 2020. She has been imprisoned for two years without one day of leave for medical treatment, despite her various serious illnesses.
Political prisoner Nejat Anvar Hamidi Karoun had been previously arrested and detained for 2 years and 4 months in the 1980s for supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
She was arrested for the second time in 2017, along with her husband and daughter for supporting the PMOI/MEK. She was interrogated and later sentenced to 5 years in prison for “membership in dissident groups on the internet” and for “propaganda against the state.”
In March 2018, she was taken to Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz to serve her 5 years of prison term.
She was later informed that she and her husband, Akbar Mohammadi, were sentenced to another 15 years in prison for “membership in the PMOI/MEK” and “propaganda against the state” by the 4th Branch of the Justice Department of Ahvaz. This is while the charges are no different from the first case.
They appealed for the 15-year sentence and their case has been under review by the clerical regime’s Supreme Court for several months.
